Building Capacity across Vermont for High-Quality Mathematics Instruction

National Impact of VMI

· Other programs modeled upon the VMI and utilizing VMI designed materials have been introduced in Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Newcastle (Australia).  In New Mexico and Nebraska the programs address middle level professional development, and in Massachusetts both elementary and middle level.

· In 2006, the Intel Foundation chose VMI as a program to scale-up nationally.  The Intel program is called the Intel Mathematics Initiative (IMI), and Intel commissioned Ken Gross to develop the curriculum.

· The Little Rock (Arkansas) School District has adopted VMI for its mathematics professional development. In 2007 the first two VMI courses Mathematics as a Second Language and Functions and Algebra were taught Little Rock, and were well received by teachers and district administrators.
