The Steel Bridge Competition is an engineering competition
sponsored by ASCE and AISC. The goal is to construct a bridge out of steel,
which must span a simulated river. Bridges are usually about 20 to 25 feet
long, and vary from 2 to 4 feet high, and are designed to hold 2500 lbs. A
regional competition is held late winter or early spring. At this competition
we compete against other colleges and universities in
You are given points for how fast you can construct your bridge,
how aesthetically pleasing, how much your bridge weighs, and the stiffness of
the bridge during horizontal and vertical loading. The time with the lowest
construction cost, which was determined by the previous items wins.
