The Laraway Section is one of 14 Sections or Chapters of the Green Mountain Club. Formerly the St. Albans Section, it was officially granted a full charter by the Green Mountain Club trustees on September 27, 1975 with a membership of 42.

In October-November of 1975 the St. Albans Section adopted the section of the Long Trail from Vermont Route 15 (Johnson) to Vermont Route 118 (Eden/Belvidere) which we still maintain today.

At the 1988 Annual meeting the Section voted to change the name to the Laraway Section to put more focus on the trail.

With a total of 21.3 miles of the Long Trail and 3.9 miles of side trails on private and public land including three overnight shelters, this beautiful stretch of the Long Trail passes outstanding features such as Prospect Rock, Codding Hollow, Laraway Lookout, Ritterbush Lookout, Devils Perch, and Devil's Gulch.  At the present time we have approximately 50 members from various parts of northern Vermont, Canada and four other states. Expansion of a dedicated volunteer presence on this portion of the Long Trail System as well as hikes, skiing, snowshoeing and general enjoyment of the Green Mountains is a central goal of the Laraway Section. The hikes, skiing, snowshoeing and work outings are moderate to easy with emphasis on having a good time and enjoying the adventure. Guests are encouraged and welcome on any outings.

The Laraway Section is doing very well with all shelters adopted and well taken care of. This section of the Long Trail has been adopted by various volunteers this year and the Section would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping make this section a pleasure to pass through.

For a detailed discription of the Long Trail including the Laraway Section please contact the Green Mountain Club. They have several publications including "The Long Trail Guide".
