Applied Math Seminar noon, April 7, Wednesday Mathematics Conference Room Solitons in Photonic Lattices Prof. Jianke Yang Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UVM Abstract: Recently, nonlinear light propagation in periodic photonic structures is attracting a lot of attention due to their novel physics as well as application potentials. In this talk, I will review recent work on nonlinear effects of light propagation in two-dimensional optically-induced photonic lattices, such as the prediction and observation of fundamental lattice solitons. Then I will present our recent theoretical and experimental results on new types of soliton structures in photonic lattices such as vortex lattice solitons, dipole lattice solitons, and vector lattice solitons. This work was done in collaboration with Prof. Z. Chen at San Francisco State University.
