Prince Edward Island
Travels with Holly Puterbaugh, Part I.
| On July 4, 2000, my partner, Lois Farnham, and I left
for vacation in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. We spent the
first night aboard a ferry which traveled from Portland, Maine, to Yarmouth,
Nova Scotia . The next two nights were in Halifax. From
there we traveled to Baddeck on Cape Breton Island for two nights.
We left Nova Scotia and then traveled to Charlottestown, PEI for two more
nights. From there, it was back home with a night in Bangor, Maine
on the way. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and the local country.
I fell in love with the Nova Scotia Tartan which is the background for this page. The blue represents the sea, green the forests and fields, red the Scottish Lion, white the surf surrounding the coast, and yellow the sunshine. One of the high points was a visit to the cemetery
where many of the victims of the Titanic are buried. It is a beautiful
location and makes the tragedy seem real.
Another favorite place was Peggy's Cove . This was
an enchanting fishing community that has not changed over the years.
We were told that the southern shore of Nova Scotia has many other beautiful
communities.
In Prince Edward Island, we were introduced to the story of Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery. We saw, and loved, Anne of Green Gables - the Musical. Unfortunately, we did not take any pictures on this part of the trip. See my trip to Iceland
